Instructor Bio

Hello! My name is Jinzhu Chen and I am currently a sophomore at American High. I am the founder of and the instructor at the Cartoon Art Club. I started the club so that I could share my knowledge and experiences with younger children, fostering a creative spark in them that I found in myself a long time ago. Through this course, I hope to spread my love for art.

Experience-wise, I have been in art for about 8 years. Mediums that I am fairly experienced in include watercolor, charcoal, pencil, pen/ink, oil paint, digital, and colored pencil.

Course Description

Every semester is comprised of 8 weeks, with an hour-and-a-half-long class per week. The classes take place on Sunday, from 1:00-2:30 pm. The location is only shared to students that sign up.

This course is tailored to each class, depending on their average skill levels and patience. If I receive younger students with less art experience, I will teach them the basics of reference art, sketching, inking, colored pencils, and alcohol markers. If I receive older students that have a stable base in drawing, I will go on to help them explore different types of art, including Zen doodling, tessellation, watercolor, landscape, and shading. Keep in mind that if and when a student finds certain subjects difficult in class I will do my best to accommodate for that student. I might also change the curriculum last minute if time is short or the students are fast.
